Looking after and Cleaning wash machines |

Cleaning washing machines is something we all have to do from time to time. Follow these simple recommendations and your find your washing machine looking after you! To start make sure your appliance is correctly fitted, meaning no kinks in the tubes as this can cause a problem when filling the machine up with water, or the rinsing cycle begins. Before putting any laundry into your washing machine, you should automatically check the pockets in any clothing to make sure they are empty. Any loose change, paper clips or small toys from children¡¯s pockets can fall into the drum and sometimes jam the spinning motor. Also it goes without saying when cleaning washing machines that if pens, or biros get into the washing, not only do you have ink onto your clothes but it does not do the pen any good either. Do not forget to look for the paper hankies, these also cause a lot of problems because they break up into little bits and can clog up your filter, besides making your clothes look as though they have been in a snow storm.
It is advisable not to overload your washing machine, this causes extra wear and tear on the drum and so would deteriorate the components quicker. Water softener does help to reduce lime scale, especially if you live in a hard water area. Lime scale can coat the workings of your washer, so costs money to have it repaired.
When washing try to use a liquid detergent instead of tradition powder. The liquid does dissolve easier in the machine, and does not leave any residue. It is an easy habit to overload the machine with detergent, but try not to, it will not dissolve properly and this then leaves patches on you laundry and this means you need to do another wash. So you are putting extra mileage on the washing machine just by using too much detergent, which it is costing more on electricity, water and also washing detergent.
If you use your washing machine for dyeing clothing, always remember to wipe up any spots of dye from the machine. Make sure you wipe out the rubber seal round the door aperture. Also do not use too much salt as this can speed up the corrosion in the machine. But using your machine for dyeing articles occasionally does not seem to damage the lifespan of it.
The only reason to take extra care after a dye is so that no solution is left to damage your next laundry. A lot of people tend to do a quick empty wash after dyeing laundry just to make sure there is no residue in the machine.
After using your washing machine, one of the easiest ways to look after it is to clean it. Cleaning washing machines is important and also easy so don't forget too! All you need to do is take out the dispenser drawer, this is easy, it just clips out, and it can then be washed in warm soapy water to remove any powder, detergent or fabric conditioner that may have stayed in the drawer.
If this is done after every wash, it only takes a few minutes, then it will stop your washer drawer clogging up and so ease the flow of water with detergent in, to the drum. Check the washing machine filter about once a month, which is normally at the front and bottom of the washer. This filter catches any articles or bits of fluff that has been removed during the washing and spinning process. Again you can just pull the filter out, and rinse under warm water to remove all the waste.
Moving your washing machine to clean behind it.
You may have to move your machine in order to clean around the back. Washing machines can be heavy so be careful. The reason they¡¯re so heavy is that weights are put inside the machine to stabilize it during washing. When these are removed you¡¯re be surprised out how light they are in comparison.
Make sure the water is turned off and check the cables going into the machine are long enough for the machine to move. Some machines have wheels, some have attached pegs or ¡°feet¡± and others have both! If you have wheels it will be easy to move the machine, if you tilt the machine onto the back or the front wheels you can change directions with no problem.
The other machines with pegs will have to be moved gradually by moving one corner and then the next. If you have smooth flooring just apply a lubricant under the pegs such as some liquid laundry detergent and the machine should easily slide out.
When you put the machine back make sure none of the wires are tangled up. If you have to reconnect the water pipe them test that their are no leakages before your view is obscured.
